QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
Do you have the Wheatstone serial number please.? Thank you
Hello
Many thanks for your question about this concertina.
Unlike Lachenal, Wheatstone did not stamp the serial numbers into the woodwork. As a result, if the piece of paper with the serial number is lost over time then unfortunately the number is lost as well.
That is the case with this concertina.
However we can make an educated estimate by looking at the visual clues.
The five fold bellows, the fact that the fretwork is a single narrow band all indicate that this is an earlier example of the Aeola.
The reeds are the high quality you would expect, with none of the issues you can find in a late model.
We would estimate that it was made between around 1895 and 1905 and so its serial would be around 23000
I hope that helps, it is certainly a very lovely instrument with an extremely sweet sound!
